The Chinese government has expressed its commitment to collaborating with Nigeria to strengthen the country’s music industry, tourism, and creative sectors.
During a meeting with Hannatu Musawa, Minister of Art, Culture, and Creative Economy, on Tuesday, He Yu Dunhai, the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, stressed China’s interest in expanding Nigerian music’s reach in the Chinese market.
“China would like to explore opportunities for cultural exchange, allowing Nigerian artists to tap into the Chinese market, where there is a growing demand for Nigerian music,” Dunhai said.
He added that beyond music, China is keen on training, capacity building, and other programmes that would boost Nigeria’s creative and tourism industries.
“We are committed to strengthening ties between our two nations in various areas of interest,” he said.
Musawa welcomed China’s commitment, noting that the partnership would strengthen the economy and enhance cultural exchange.
“This partnership will not only boost our economy but also foster cultural exchange and understanding between our nations,” she said.
She further stated that the ministry would prioritise infrastructural development and work towards revamping major tourism sites, including Yankari Game Reserve, Obudu Ranch Resort, Tinapa, and Erin-Ijesha Waterfall.
“Taking a cue from beautiful and scenic tourist sites in Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Mexico, and other parts of the world, most of which can be replicated in Nigeria,” she added.
Nigeria and China also discussed collaborations in technology development, such as animation, incubation programmes for young creatives, and easing visa access for tourism and creative industry professionals.
