The United States Mission in Nigeria has issued a stern warning to visa holders, cautioning that overstaying a US visa could lead to a permanent travel ban.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the US Mission made it clear that immigration violations are taken seriously and can have severe consequences.
“If you overstay your U.S. visa, you could face a permanent ban on traveling to the United States,” the post read.
The Mission further emphasised that US consular officers have full access to an applicant’s immigration history and are aware of past violations.
“There is no such thing as an ‘honest mistake’ – it is your responsibility to use your visa correctly,” the statement added.
The warning serves as a reminder to Nigerian travellers and others to strictly adhere to the terms of their US visas to avoid penalties that could affect their ability to visit the country in the future.
