The Federal Government has begun paying the new ₦77,000 monthly allowance to members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), fulfilling a commitment made in September 2024.
The increase, which aligns with the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024, more than doubles the previous ₦33,000 stipend. However, its implementation was delayed due to financial and administrative challenges.
Corps members started receiving payment notifications on Wednesday, Pilot News has learnt.
Last week, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, the NYSC Director General, reaffirmed that the new allowance would take effect in March 2025.
Meanwhile, Minister of Youth Development Ayodele Olawande had assured that arrears from the delayed implementation would also be paid, but this commitment remains unfulfilled.
