40 persons including women and children out of 58 abducted two years ago in Dugwaba district of Hong local government area of Adamawa State are still in captivity.
Dr. Herbert Rufus Hanawa, Principal Special Assistant to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri on Budget disclosed this when he led a delegation of Dugwaba Community on a courtesy call to the Speaker Adamawa State House of Assembly, Rt.Hon. Bathiya Wesley on behalf of the District Head, Mr Simon Buba.
Hanawa pointed out that 18 of the victims managed to escape from the den of the terrorists after spending one year, appealing to the government to assist in securing the release of the captives and reuniting them with their families.
He called for the establishment of a military base in the area to secure the area from attacks considering its proximity to Sambisa Forest, the den of Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State.
The leader of the delegation also revealed that due to incessant attacks and abductions in some communities in the district, residents of the affected villages have deserted their places aboard.
He said the affected villages with a population of ten thousand, three hundred and forty-forty (10,344) are Kopre, Zah, Kinging, Mubang and Dabna have already relocated to Hong, Gombi, Song and Yola.
Responding, the Speaker Adamawa State House of Assembly, Rt.Hon. Bathiya Wesley noted that no development will thrive in an atmosphere devoid of peace, pointing out as legislators they will lobby to ensure that peace is restore in the affected communities.
