The Minister for Works and former governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. Dave Umahi has come under intense criticism over his comments during a recent visit to Anambra to flag off a continuation of the Second Niger Bridge project.
During this visit, the Minister was reported to have said shortly after he was hosted in the Anambra State Government House, that there is no opposition in Anambra State. This comment has infuriated his party members to no end. Anambra is governed by the All Progressives Grand Alliance – APGA, not Umahi’s APC. A clip of the comment which has been circulating on social media showed Engr. Dave Umahi, a member of the All Progressive Congress – APC and a serving minister in the APC federal government, stood beside Governor Soludo to declare that there was no opposition in Anambra to the delight of Governor Soludo.
Meanwhile, only about two months ago, the Anambra State chapter of the APC commissioned a new State Secretariat that was procured for the party by Sir Paul Chukwuma, one of the party’s leading aspirants in the upcoming November 8 Governorship Election. During that event, the National Chairman of the party, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, expressed satisfaction with the growth and efforts of the APC in Anambra State and declared that the party would add Anambra State to its fold in November.
Umahi’s comment therefore comes as a rude shock to APC members in Anambra State, who then went all out against him. Stakeholders of the party in Anambra State, and several APC support groups have referred to Umahi’s comments as “careless”, while others called it “reckless.” There have also been calls for Umahi to be disciplined for anti-party activities by the party leadership. Some APC members have accused Umahi of having a business relationship with Soludo, which they say is the reason behind his comments. The Anambra APC has called for a press briefing to address what it described as “Minister Dav Umahi’s oxymoronic statement of mockery and pity on Soludo.”
Ahead of the November 8, 2025, Anambra State Governorship Election, the Anambra APC has indeed emerged as the major opposition to the ruling APGA. This can be seen in the influx of multiple quality membership into the party, a fit no other political party has matched in Anambra State, including the ruling APGA.
