NewsNigeriaPoliticsEntire Ihiala Local Government APC leadership decamps, joins YPP

Ahead of the November gubernatorial election in Anambra State, the entire leadership of the All Progressives Congress – APC, in Ihiala local government area of Anambra State, has moved to the Young Progressive Party – YPP. The APC local government chairman, Mr. Obinakaba Callistus, resigned his membership of the APC together with all members of his executive and joined the YPP. As if this was not enough, the entire twenty (20) ward chairmen across the twenty (20) wards in Ihiala local government, also resigned their membership of the APC, along with their entire executive, and joined the YPP.

The formal reception of these former APC leaders into YPP was held on Wednesday in Ihiala, with a turnout that is as significant as a rally of sorts. This audacious move has now energized the YPP in Ihiala while weakening the APC in that local government. Earlier, a major stakeholder of the APC in Ihiala, Ichie Mike Ejezie, resigned from the party and was subsequently named the Southeast Zonal Chairman of the YPP. As of today, what is being witnessed in Anambra State is a complete collapse of the APC, as more members of the party continue to leave.

In their various comments, some of the former APC leaders in Ihiala blamed their resignation from the party on the process and outcome of the party’s governorship primary election held three weeks ago. There has been a serious protest against the APC governorship primary election, particularly with regard to the delegates who participated in the primary election. Many party faithful are also of the view that the party was unfair to itself by failing to conduct a transparent primary election and disenfranchising party members in consequence. This protest only intensified after Sir Paul Chukwuma emerged as the YPP candidate for the November election, after he resigned from APC, refusing to participate in the primary of the party for varying degrees of infractions on the laid down primary election procedures.

So far, the YPP is now shaping up as the main opposition to the ruling APGA come November 8, 2025.
