YPP State Chairman, Sir Paul Chukwuma and other leaders of the YPP raising Uzu Okagbue's hand as the Party's Runnng Mate.

The governorship candidate of the Young Progressive Party – YPP, for the November 8, 2025 Anambra State Governorship Election, has picked Uzu Okagbue, as his running mate. The announcement was made on Friday by Chukwuma.

During the unveiling of his running mate at the YPP State secretariat in Awka, Sir Paul Chukwuma said that his decision was arrived at after intense consultations across all strata of the society in Anambra. Speaking on the character of his running mate, Chukwuma said that Uzu Okagbue is a reliable man, friend, ally, and someone with the full spirit of Anambra’s continuous drive for excellence. In his comment on why he chose Uzu, Paul Chukwuma said, “I find in him a friend, a brother, an ally, someone not only me but Ndi Anambra can rely on,” Mr. Chukwuma said. Urging the Party leadership and members to support him, he implored them to remember him in their prayers. “I would like our party members and leadership in Anambra State to continue the prayer as we have started, but expand it to include Chief Uzuegbuna Okagbue, who, I present to you at this moment as the Deputy Governorship candidate of the Young Progressive Party,” Sir Paul Chukwuma said.

Accepting his nomination, Chief Uzu Okagbue described his nomination as an honour, which he said places a demand on him for service. Therefore, he said, he accepts the nomination. According to Okagbue, “What I bring to the table is unwavering loyalty to the vision we share, the competence to complement our candidate’s leadership, and the capacity to get things done behind the scenes. My strength lies in turning strategy into action, ensuring that our promises don’t remain on paper, but are felt in the lives of our people. I understand that leadership is not just about the person at the top – it’s also about the strength of the team around him. I am here to provide that strength, that balance, and that quiet force that ensures our mission succeeds. I bring depth, dedication, and track record of delivery that will help transform vision into tangle progress,” Uzu Okagbue submitted.

In his speech, the Anambra State Chairman of YPP, Prince Moses Obi said that the Deputy Governorship candidate of the party is a man of proven character who does not discriminate. He recalled how he was assisted generously in the past by Uzu Okagbue without knowing him. Similarly, the Southeast Zonal Chairman of YPP, Ichie Mike Ejezie, also commended the choice of Okagbue. He also expressed optimism that the YPP will get to the Government House of Anambra State come November. In their submissions, the YPP State Zonal Chairman South, Ikunna Ifeanyi, the Zonal Chairman North, and the YPP Dunukofia local government chairman, all commended the choice of Uzu Okagbue as Sir Paul’s running mate, insisting that Uzu is a pragmatic leader with the right attitude to bring the required strength to the ticket.

Chief Uzuegbuna Okagbue the YPP’s Deputy Governorship candidate ahead of the November 8, 2025, Anambra State governorship election, had his first degree in Political Science, from the University of Abuja. He was a senior banker for nearly a decade before he joined Governor Obiano and served as the Chief of Protocol, then later was elevated as the Deputy Chief of Staff, while still serving as the Chief of Protocol to the governor. He aspired to the Nigerian Senate for Anambra Central in 2023, but could not secure his party’s nomination.

Uzu Okagbue has received not less than three executive trainings on leadership from the Harvard Business School and the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
