The Government of Saint Lucia has conferred one of its highest national honours on Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in recognition of his leadership and service on the African continent and beyond.

In a press statement issued Tuesday, the Caribbean nation announced that, acting on the advice of the Prime Minister, the Governor General of Saint Lucia has bestowed the title of Knight Commander of the Order of Saint Lucia (KCOSL) upon President Tinubu.

“The Government of Saint Lucia is pleased to announce that, acting on the advice of the Prime Minister, the Governor General has conferred the title of Knight Commander of the Order of Saint Lucia (KCOSL) upon His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the statement read.

With this investiture, President Tinubu will now be formally addressed as: H.E. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, KCOSL (Hon.), President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The title of Knight Commander of the Order of Saint Lucia is one of the highest distinctions awarded under the Saint Lucian Honours and Awards Act, typically granted to individuals who have rendered distinguished and meritorious service to Saint Lucia or humanity at large.

As at the time of filing this report, the Nigerian presidency is yet to issue an official response to the development.

President Tinubu has been on a state visit to Saint Lucia since Saturday, having arrived in Vieux Fort at 5:30 p.m. local time. The visit marks the first stop in his two-nation tour of the Caribbean and South America.
