A kidnapped victim, Mathew John Zephaniah has been successfully rescued by Rivers State Police Command following a coordinated operation by operatives of the Command.
The police operatives, drawn from tactical units and divisions within the Oyigbo Area Command, collaborated with OSPAC local vigilante groups to track down the kidnappers in Agbonchia Forest, Eleme Local Government Area.
This latest feat was stated in a press statement on Wednesday signed by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the state police command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko.
Iringe-Koko disclosed that the kidnappers who opened fire on the police operatives were overpowered by the superior firepower of the police, forcing them to abandon the victim and flee with gunshot wounds.
The police spokesperson noted that the victim was rescued unhurt, alongside his Laptop and Phone were recovered, including two Android Phones and a Smart Wrist Watch suspected to belong to the kidnappers.
She said, “The rescued victim has been debriefed and reunited with his family, bringing relief to his loved ones.
“The exhibits are currently in police custody, and efforts are being made to apprehend the fleeing members of the gang. The Command urges residents to report any individual with suspicious gunshot wounds to the nearest police station or other security agencies promptly.”
Meanwhile, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, Rivers State Commissioner of Police has commended the operatives for their bravery and assured residents of the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property in the state.
