Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris, has vowed to swiftly sign the death warrant of any informant found guilty of aiding bandits in the state.
The Governor gave the warning during a visit to Zogirma community in Bunza Local Government Area on Monday, following the killing of three police officers by suspected members of the notorious Lakurawa gang.
Outraged by the deadly attack, Governor Idris did not mince words as he condemned informants who tip off criminals and compromise national security.
“They deserve capital punishment and should not live among us. I will not hesitate to sign their death warrant. I do not support life imprisonment for such individuals,” he said.
He described such people as “bad eggs” who betray their communities and assist bandits in exchange for money or favours, adding that his administration would do everything legally possible to eliminate their operations.
While condoling with the Zogirma community and families of the slain officers, the Governor reaffirmed his administration’s plan to introduce a law that prescribes the death penalty for convicted informants.
He assured residents that the government would not fold its arms while criminal elements wreak havoc, stressing that improved security would remain top of his agenda.
“We will do everything humanly possible to ensure our citizens sleep with both eyes closed. Security remains our top priority, and we will not treat it with levity,” Idris said.
To support victims of the attack, Governor Idris announced the immediate donation of ₦50 million and relief materials to affected households.
The gesture was applauded by the Chairman of Bunza Local Government, Zayyanu Shehu, and the District Head of Zogirma, Alhaji Tijjani Muhammad, who both thanked the Governor for standing with the community during a difficult time.
