Operatives of the Adamawa State Police Command have arrested 16 years 16-year-old Ijai Anthony of Pallam District in Madagali LGA, who killed his stepmother during an altercation.
Adamawa State Command Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, in a statement, said the suspect struck his stepmother, Rhoda Anthony, on the head with a piece of wood.
The statement said: “Preliminary investigation reveals that a physical confrontation erupted between two co-wives, Rhoda Anthony, aged 55, and Victoria Anthony, aged 36, both married to one Anthony Pallam. During the altercation, Victoria’s son, Ijai Anthony, aged 16, reportedly struck his stepmother, Rhoda Anthony, on the head with a piece of wood, causing her to collapse. The victim was rushed to Cottage Hospital Madagali, but was later confirmed dead while receiving treatment. The suspect and his mother have been taken into protective custody as investigation progresses”.
In a similar incident, one Idi, a resident of Fotta District, Gombi LGA, has been arrested for stabbing his biological father, Buba Jelli, to death.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, said the suspect had stabbed the deceased on the neck and back with a knife, following a domestic altercation.
“The victim was immediately rushed to the Primary Health Care Center in Fotta, where he sadly died while receiving treatment,” the statement explained.
Nguroje said that currently, the command is investigating the two separate incidents of culpable homicide arising from domestic violence.
He added that the suspects would be charged in court upon completion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Command, CP Dankombo Morris, has condemned these heinous acts of violence, especially those involving family members.
He calls on all residents to always exercise restraint, avoid taking the law into their own hands, and seek peaceful means in resolving conflicts.
