The immediate past Speaker, of the Benue State House of Assembly, Aondona Dajoh, was suspended on Tuesday for three months, over alleged attempt to impeach Governor Hyacinth Alia.
The suspension of Dajoh followed a motion moved by the lawmaker representing Kyan State Constituency, Terna Shimawua, and seconded by James Umoru from Apa State Constituency.
The mover of the motion during plenary, was one of those suspended by Dajoh before his resignation as Speaker last week Friday.
The Speaker, Alfred Berger, who ruled on the motion, reviewed Dajoh’s suspension from six to three months without the usual votes on such matters.
Reacting to the suspension, the former Speaker, Aondona Dajoh, has denied speculation that he masterminded a move to impeach Governor Hyacinth Alia.
In a statement released on Tuesday by his media aide, Terver Zamber, Dajoh dismissed the allegation as “baseless and unfounded,” stressing that throughout his tenure, his relationship with the governor remained cordial and supportive.
“The Assembly had recently passed a vote of confidence in Governor Alia, a gesture that underscored the lawmakers’ commitment to the administration’s agenda,” the statement said.
The former wondered why he was singled out for suspension if there was such move to unseat the governor.
