LifestyleNewsNigeriaHilda Baci Begins Quest to Cook World’s Largest Pot of Nigerian Jollof Rice

Chef and food influencer Hilda Baci has begun an attempt to cook the world’s largest pot of Nigerian jollof rice, as part of a Guinness World Records (GWR) challenge, at Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos.

The project has drawn huge interest, including from Gen Zs, millennials, celebrities and food lovers, all gathering to witness the event. Over 20,000 people had registered to attend.

She said the custom-built pot has a capacity of 22,619 litres, with her original target to fill 80 per cent of it.

According to Baci, “this would require about 5,278 kilogrammes of raw basmati rice, roughly 264 bags, but she has now raised her target to 25,000 bags.”

Before the cooking got fully underway, she shared on social media: “Yes, I can officially confirm this pot is squeaky clean! I rolled up my sleeves and washed it myself. In just a few hours, this same pot will carry thousands of servings of Nigerian Jollof history in the making.”

The atmosphere was electric. Long queues formed outside the venue; many attendees waited at the gates while security personnel checked registration emails. Supporters cheered and waved banners as cooking commenced.

The venue was changed from Muri Okunola Park to Eko Hotels and Suites to accommodate the huge expected turnout.

Hilda Baci, who first came to widespread international acclaim in 2023 for breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon, hopes this attempt will put Nigeria into the record books once more.

The attempt is being closely monitored and will be reviewed by Guinness World Records (GWR) once completed.

GWR has already expressed its support, saying: “Best of luck, Hilda and team!”
