The Assistant Inspector General of Police Zone 3, AIG Akinwale Adeniran has requested Adamawa people to accept security as a collective responsibility.
AIG Adeniran gave the advice Monday during a familiarization visit to the Adamawa State Police Command headquarters in Yola, enjoined the people to be up and doing especially, against the Shilla Boys.
“Adamawa State is a home of peace and hospitality. To consolidate this reputation, we need to buy the idea of security needing collective approach.
The Shilla Boys, a collection of young men mostly in their teens and early 20s who constitute themselves into terror groups, armed with knives, specialize in stealing of light items, usually phones and cash, very often in broad day light.
AIG Adeniran said “Adamawa people should always be prompt with information that could lead the police to arrest Shilla Boys and other suspects.
“Shilla Boys have largely been decimated but we want them completely out of our midst.
Earlier, the Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, CP Dankombo Morris has complained of dilapidated police barracks, inadequate operational vehicles, and manpower shortage.
The CP added that the state command also lacks effective communication system and retraining of the personnel of the command to enhance their capacity.
“Additional manpower is required to tackle insecurity,” the Adamawa CP said.
Morris, however, told the visiting AIG that his command, despite its challenges, has achieved notable success since he became the state CP in February last year, including arrest of high profile kidnappers, armed robbers, and Shilla Boys.
Others are recovered arms and ammunition, including 11 AK-47 rifles, five locally made pistols, 24 locally fabricated guns, and 65 6.72mm caliber live ammunition.
He also recalled how his command rescued four kidnapped people, 13 trafficked children, and recently five children allegedly abducted from Borno State but found wandering at the Mubi axis of the state.
