Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has been officially declared the candidate of Accord Party for the 2026 governorship election in the state.
The outcome was sealed at the party’s primary in Osogbo on Wednesday, where Adeleke, the sole aspirant, secured 145 of the 150 delegate votes cast, with the remaining five ballots declared invalid.
In his acceptance remarks, the Governor said his administration’s record over the past three years justified his bid for a second term. He urged his competitors to base their campaigns on track records. “Osun will never go back to the dark days,” he declared.
Expressing gratitude to party leadership and delegates from all 332 wards, Adeleke said, “The confidence you repose in me is hugely appreciated. I assure you that I will not take it for granted.”
He added: “We are today launching the battle for continuity of progress, good governance, and democratic dividends. My candidacy marks the continuation of the golden movement, as the light of development continues to shine across our state. We vow never to relent in the rewarding service to our people.”
Adeleke contrasted his administration’s performance with what he described as the failure of past governments, challenging opponents to defend their records when they were in office.
“In their days in government, what were their deliverables to the people of Osun State? … In their days in power, they failed the people; they failed their party; they even failed themselves,” he said. “I am proud to run on my record of achievements of the last three years.”
As evidence of his claimed achievements, the Governor cited several gains: under his leadership Osun rose from 33rd to 7th place in a national examination rating; infrastructure deficit was reduced significantly; and a substantial portion of the state’s inherited debt was paid, a fact he said was verified by the Debt Management Office. He also claimed that the state now leads in access to primary healthcare across the Southwest.
Furthermore, Adeleke used the moment to unveil an upgraded five-point agenda for his second-term bid.
The renewed platform includes integrated citizens’ and workers’ welfare, infrastructure consolidation for economic prosperity, agro-industrial expansion for youth empowerment, innovations in health, education, and social care, and a business-friendly environment aimed at job creation.
The endorsement follows his recent defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). His switch to the Accord Party was confirmed on Tuesday.
