The immediate past Minister of Labour and Employment and a former Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Chris Ngige, has been reportedly arrested in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.
Ngige was said to have been picked up by armed security operatives at his residence on Justice Mohammed Bello Road in Abuja.
As of the time of filing this report, details surrounding the operation remain unclear, and no security agency has officially commented on the arrest.
But Ngige’s former media aide, Fred Chukwuelobe confirmed that the former minister is currently in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
“Former Governor of Anambra State and immediate past minister of labour and employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, is with the EFCC. More details later.”
The clarification came amid growing online misinformation surrounding Ngige’s whereabouts.
Ngige was also in the news recently when his convoy was attacked by armed men in Anambra State.
He was not in the vehicle at the time of the attack.
EFCC and other security agencies are yet to comments on the issue.
