Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defection was announced on X on Friday by the National Chairman of the APC, Nentawe Yilwatda, who warmly welcomed the Governor into the ruling party on behalf of its leadership and members nationwide.
In his statement, Yilwatda described Mutfwang’s decision as courageous and driven by national and state interests.
“On behalf of the National Working Committee and the entire family of the All Progressives Congress, I warmly welcome His Excellency, Governor Caleb Mutfwang, into our great party, the APC. Your decision to join the progressive family is a bold and patriotic step, driven by a higher calling to serve the people of Plateau State and Nigeria,” he said.
The APC Chairman said the Governor’s registration symbolised optimism and a renewed commitment to development, peace, and unity in Plateau State.
“Today’s registration is a statement of hope and a commitment to a shared vision of inclusive development, peace, and prosperity for Plateau State,” Yilwatda stated.
Assuring the Governor of full cooperation and support, the APC leadership pledged to work closely with him to advance the state’s interests and strengthen the party.
“We receive you with open arms and a deep sense of partnership, and I assure you of our collective resolve to work closely with you, hand in hand to advance the interests of Plateau State, strengthen our party, and deliver meaningful dividends of democracy to our people,” he added.
Yilwatda concluded his message with a symbolic welcome to the Governor: “Welcome home to the APC, Senior Caleb Mutfwang.”
As of the time of this report, Governor Mutfwang has yet to personally issue a statement explaining his reasons for leaving his former party.
