The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to adequately prepare for the forthcoming Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections, as well as the Ekiti and Osun governorship elections scheduled for later in the year.
A statement by IPAC Chairman, Dr. Yusuf Dantalle, stressed the need for the commission to maintain neutrality and guarantee a level playing field for all political parties.
IPAC further advised Nigerians to exercise their civic responsibilities by participating in the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), voting for candidates of their choice, and resisting the temptation of vote-buying during elections.
The council also urged political actors to embrace issue-based campaigns and desist from violence, bitterness and other electoral malpractices capable of undermining democratic consolidation.
It urged Nigerians to be proactive and actively engage in issues that affect their lives, noting that nation-building is a collective responsibility in which every citizen has a vital role to play.
The Council says Nigerians must recommit themselves to strengthening democracy and improving the quality of life of citizens.
Dantalle called on Nigerians to remain optimistic and approach the new year with renewed confidence and faith, describing it as a fresh opportunity to build a strong, inclusive, and prosperous nation.
