A truck loaded with firewood has detonated an explosive device believed to have been planted by Boko Haram terrorists in some parts of Hong local government area in Adamawa State, injuring six people in Mumbang of Yadul district.
The incident that occurred on Wednesday around 11:30 am has sent fear into the inhabitants who have been victims of insurgent attacks for years due to its proximity to Sambisa Forest, the den of Boko Haram terrorists.
The development has forced the inhabitants of four villages, Mubang, Zah, Kinging, and Dabna, to flee for safety, thereby deserting the areas.
Five of the victims are currently receiving medical attention at the Federal Medical Centre Hong, while one whose injury is not severe was discharged, but no deaths have been recorded.
According to reports, the victims who were amongst the Internally Displaced Persons taking shelter in Gombi came to the village with a hired truck to transport some firewood from Mumbang village, Yadul District, to Gombi for domestic use when the truck conveying the product detonated a landmine.
Anti-bomb squads are currently combing Mumbang village to ensure that the area is safe for living.
Meanwhile, the State Assembly House committee on Security, led by its Chairman Hon. Kefas Emmanuel (Song Constituency), has commiserated with the victims at their hospital beds at FMC Hong.
The committee also assesses the security situation on the recent violent incursions into Mumbang, Zah, and Mayoladde neighbourhood villages of Mumbang and compiles a comprehensive report for legislative action.
