The Bola Ahmed Tinubu Ideological Group (BAT-IG) has commended President Bola Tinubu for the recent cabinet reshuffle, describing the move as timely and strategic.

In a statement by the convener, Bamidele Atoyebi on Wednesday, the group said the decision reflected the President’s commitment to accountability and effective leadership, noting that public office holders must be evaluated based on measurable performance and impact.

BAT-IG also observed that the reshuffle came seven days after it submitted an open letter to the President on April 14, 2026, calling for urgent reforms and a results-driven assessment of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

According to the group, the letter urged the President to ensure that appointments are tied to clear deliverables that advance the administration’s policy direction and meet Nigerians’ expectations.

The organisation said the changes announced by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), which included the exit of some cabinet members, demonstrated that the administration was responsive to constructive criticism and focused on strengthening its team.

BAT-IG further stated that periodic reviews of government officials were necessary to sustain momentum in governance and restore public confidence in leadership.

The group expressed optimism that the reshuffle would inject fresh energy into the cabinet and improve policy implementation across critical sectors of the economy.

It also urged newly appointed and retained officials to justify the confidence reposed in them by delivering practical results that would positively impact citizens.

Recall that President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday approved a minor reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council, removing the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, from their cabinet positions.

The Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Yomi Odunuga, in a statement on Tuesday, said the development was contained in a memo signed by the

Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.

According to the memo, Taiwo Oyedele has been appointed as the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.

Also appointed is Dr. Muttaqha Darma as Minister-designate for Housing and Urban Development.

The memo also directed the outgoing ministers to complete handover processes to their respective successors or supervising officials.

It stated that all handing over and taking over activities must be concluded on or before the close of business on Thursday, 23rd April, 2026.
