President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday administered the oath of office to Mr Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of Power and Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
The brief ceremony was held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, with the spouses of the new ministers and senior government officials in attendance.
The appointments follow the resignation of the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue political ambitions. Both replacements were earlier nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate on Wednesday, 6 May 2026.
Mr Tegbe, a native of Ibadan in Oyo State, brings more than 35 years of experience spanning the public and private sectors. He is widely recognised as a fiscal, economic and institutional reform strategist with a strong background in stakeholder engagement.
An alumnus of Obafemi Awolowo University, he graduated with a First Class Degree in Civil Engineering and later obtained a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Switzerland, as well as a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Birmingham.
Before his appointment, he served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG in Africa, where he led major transformation initiatives, including the design and implementation of presidential reforms and strategies for subnational governments.
He has also worked on fiscal policy restructuring across different tiers of government and engaged with institutions such as the Nigerian Communications Commission, Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, Nigeria Revenue Service, Shell, Huawei, General Electric, MTN and Odu’a Group, among others.
Ambassador Enikanolaiye, from Igbagun in Kogi State, holds a First Class Degree in Political Science from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he also received the Dean’s Prize as best graduating student. He earned a Master’s Degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos with Distinction.
He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1982 and rose through the ranks to become a Director before his appointment as Permanent Secretary in 2016. He retired from public service on August 4, 2017, after 35 years of service.
His diplomatic career includes postings in Addis Ababa, Belgrade, Ottawa and London, with his final assignment as Nigeria’s Head of Mission in New Delhi, India. He has received several honours, including the Presidential Civil Service Merit Award and the Presidential Distinguished Public Service Career Award, and is a Distinguished Fellow of the National Defence College.
Before his latest appointment, he served as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations in the Office of the Chief of Staff.
