Following the deterioration of security in some parts of the country, Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has charged 21 local government chairmen-elect to secure schools from any security threat.
Fintiri gave the charge when he hosted all the chairmen-elect at the Government House, Yola, on Thursday.
He said by security schools will enable students acquire knowledge in a safe and conducive environment without fear.
“The responsibility of local government leadership goes beyond the provision of basic amenities, protection of educational institutions and the welfare of students and teachers must remain a top priority.
“Peaceful learning environment is essential for the development of the state and the future of its young people,” he said.
“You should work closely with traditional rulers, security agencies, community leaders, and other stakeholders to promote peace, unity, and development across your respective councils,” he said.
The governor also urged the chairmen to consolidate on the achievements of their predecessors and focus on projects and programmes that would have a direct impact on the lives of the people.
Governor Fintiri while congratulating them over their victory at the polls,charged the council leaders to provide purposeful leadership, ensure prudent management of public resources, and remain committed to the welfare of their constituents.
He emphasized the importance of continuity in governance, advising the incoming chairmen against victimization and unnecessary disruption of ongoing projects, regardless of political or personal differences.
“People will judge your performance based on the quality of services delivered at the grassroots,” he said.
Fintiri urged them to assume office with clear visions and programmes that would address the needs and aspirations of the people.
Earlier in his remark, the leader of the delegation and Chairman of Michika Local Government area, Mr Danbiyu Tumba, congratulated Governor Fintiri on his emergence as APC Northern senatorial candidate.
He commended him for creating a peaceful atmosphere that ensured the successful conduct of the recent local government elections.
Danbiyu Tumba pledged their loyalty, cooperation and support to state government towards improving the living standards of the people.
