The Adamawa State House of Assembly on Monday passed a bill into law to provide gratuity and death benefits for chiefs and emirs in the state.
The passage of the bill for a law to amend the Adamawa State Chiefs (Appointment and Deposition) (Amendment) Law, 2024 so as to provide for the Gratuity/Death benefits of Chiefs/Emirs followed the consideration and adoption of a report on the matter.
The report was submitted by the House Standing Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, by its chairnan Hon. Kefas Calvin (Toungo Constituency) during Monday’s plenary.
The Committee chairman praised Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for sponsoring the bill, saying it will help Emirs and Chiefs in the state.
Commenting on the report, the Deputy Speaker of the assembly, Hon. Muhammed Buba Jidjiwa (Jada/Mbula) commended the committee for a job well done, saying that the traditional institutions represent culture, norms and values.
The Majority Leader of the assembly, Hon. Kate Raymond Mamuno (Demsa), moved for the passage of the bill, and the motion was seconded by Hon. Musa Mahmud Kallamu (Mayo Belwa).
Following the third reading, the Speaker of the House, Rt.Hon. Bathiya Wesley, who presided over the plenary, announced the passage of the bill and directed the Clerk of the House to prepare a clean copy of the legislation for the Governor’s assent.
