Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, has given former students until 31 December 2026 to collect their unclaimed certificates, warning that those who miss the deadline will pay a monthly charge of ₦2,000 from January.
The institution said many certificates belonging to former students who had completed their programmes remained uncollected, with some reportedly held by the polytechnic for several years.
The final notice was contained in a statement signed by Saka Eletu, Deputy Registrar, Examinations and Records Division, on behalf of the acting Registrar.
“The Polytechnic authority has observed that a considerable number of certificates belonging to former students who successfully completed their programmes are still uncollected, despite the importance of these certificates for employment, further studies, professional advancement and other official engagements,” the statement said.
The notice directed affected graduands and alumni to collect their Diploma, Higher Diploma, National Diploma (ND), Higher National Diploma (HND) and Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) certificates before the deadline.
“Certificates are ready for collection at the Examinations and Records Division of the Polytechnic during official working hours. With effect from 1st January, 2027, any certificate that remains unclaimed will attract a demurrage charge of ₦2,000.00 (Two Thousand Naira) per month,” the statement added.
The management urged former students to take advantage of the remaining period to avoid the additional financial burden.
To collect their certificates, applicants must present their original statements of result, valid means of identification and evidence of payment for the certificate.
The polytechnic provided two WhatsApp numbers, 08168515577 and 08069505277, for enquiries.
The latest notice follows an earlier directive issued by the institution in 2022, when it warned that former students who failed to process and collect their certificates by the end of that year would be required to pay twice the applicable certificate fee.
The earlier directive also made the collection of students’ copies of academic transcripts compulsory for graduating students, at a fee of ₦5,000.
