Adamawa State Polytechnic Yola Community has contributed over N1.7million towards the containment of COVID-19 ahead of reopening of the institution on 12th October 2020 as directed by the state Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.

A Press Statement by the Information Officer of the Polytechnic Mr Albert Matilah said the money which was realized during stakeholder meeting was expended on the purchase of infrared thermometers, over three thousand hand washing soap and sanitizers.

However, the Management of the institution has approved that each student upon resumption will pay Two Thousand Naira (N2, 000) to augment the efforts of stakeholders in sustaining the COVID-19 protocols in the three campuses of the institution.

The statement explained that the money to be paid by students is in line with the government’s appeal to parents to contribute their quota towards the safety of their wards on campus.

During the meeting, a COVID-19 Taskforce Committee headed by the Director Academic Planning, Dr Gabriel G. Teneke was formed to enforce and administer the COVID-19 protocols.

The statement read part “the Committee has since undertaken the mowing of grass in all the three campuses of the Polytechnic located in the Main Campus Yola, Jambutu and Numan including the fumigation of classrooms and hostels.

 “The Committee has also acquired fabricated handwashing machines and placed them at strategic locations in all the three campuses”.

Meanwhile, the Management of the Polytechnic has approved that Examinations are to commence after two weeks of resumption and will last for two weeks after which the second semester will roll over immediately.

 A Press Release by the Information Officer of the Polytechnic Mr Albert Matilah said the Management has also approved that staff and students upon resumption must comply with the all the COVID -19 NCDC approved protocols; use of face mask, Hand washing, use of hand sanitizer and maintain social distance.

“Consequent upon this, lectures are to be started with Diploma 1 having their lectures from 6:00 am – 2:00pm while Diploma 2 are to have their lectures from 2:00pm-6:00pm.
