The South East geo-political zone leaders on Thursday at a closed door meeting at the Government House Enugu resolved to effectively engage the youths to ensure sustainable peace in the zone as well as a glorious future for them.

The Chairman of the South East Governors’ Forum, SEGF, and Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi revealed this to newsmen at the rise of the closed door meeting.

“The State Governors are committed to addressing the concerns of our young people that are peculiar to various states and will engage the Federal Government and our counterparts in other states to address other National issues,” Umahi said.

He further disclosed, “Each state in the South East zone will set up a fund to assist the victims of the crisis; the Police, the Army and other security agencies as well as civilians”.

“We the Igbo leaders sympathize with all the families of the victims of the violent endSARS protests; the Police, other security agencies as well as all those who lost their loved ones and properties during the recent disturbances”.

“While we the Governors in the South East geo-political zone are working hard to meet your demands, we call on you to desist from destruction of public and private properties, killing of security agents and civilians,” the SEGF spokesman advised.

“We therefore, direct all Igbos, both in and outside Nigeria, to go about their businesses and not participate in any form of unlawful protest and criminality”.

“We promise to protect all ethnic groups living in the South East and appreciate our counterparts for protecting Igbos in their areas too,” Umahi said.

In attendance at the meeting are Governors of South East Geopolitical zone, National Assembly members, Ministers, clergy, traditional rulers, Igbo leaders and women leaders.

Some attendees include Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Governor Enugu State; Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, Governor Abia State; Dr. Nkem Okeke, Deputy Governor Anambra State; Prof. Placid Njoku, Imo State Deputy Governor; Chief Nnia Nwodo, President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo; Senator Ike Ekweremadu, Senator Rochas Okorocha, Senator Sam Egwu, Senator Uche Ekwunife.

Others include Geoffrey Onyeama, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Uchechukwu Ogah, Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development; Sharon Ikeazor, Minister of State for Environment; HRM Igwe Alfred Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha; Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Mrs. Justina Eze, amongst others.
