Prof Ibrahim Umar, Rector, Adamawa State Polytechnic Yola says the improvement in terms of human and infrastructure has led to enhanced academic activities in the three campuses of the school.
The Rector was speaking during a media briefing on achievements since he assumed duty held at the conference Hall Yola main campus of the Polytechnic, Yola.
Umar enumerated some of the projects executed with internally generated revenue as well as Tertiary Education Trust TETfund intervention led to increase in student enrollment.
“Academic performance of the school improved over the period following the provision of more conducive atmosphere for learning through construction of classrooms and laboratories as well as capacity building for staff among others,
“Some of the projects to be executed under TETfund include perimeter fencing of Jambutu campus, construction of classrooms and laboratories for the Agriculture Technology Department and Science Laboratory complex”, he said.
According to him, a German company has indicated interest in building hostel blocks under a private partnership arrangement.
He said the school has three sources of funding which include, state government, grant internally generated revenue as well as External grant or intervention by TETfund, adding that during the period under review, a nursery and primary school of the polytechnic was established.
The Rector used the briefing to dismiss as untrue the rumour that certain courses were moved from Numan campus to Yola campus, pointing out that the Numan campus has a higher number of accredited courses and infrastructural development through TETfund.
On COVID-19 and other health matters, the Rector said a committee was constituted to ensure compliance to preventive protocol while the health Care centre within the main campus has commenced 24 hours service delivery.
He said student’s unionism was resuscitated while academically the staff union was reinvigorated to provide a level playing ground for students and staff to contribute to running the polytechnic.
