The Kano State government says it has arrested 500 beggars for allegedly violating the law that banned street begging in the state.
Dr. Zahra’u Muhammad-Umar, State’s Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, disclosed this while repatriating the beggars in Kano out of the state.
“Names, local governments, phone numbers of the arrested people have been collected and they would be repatriated back to their various homes and states, while they will be empowered.
“People of the state, especially women should take care of their children to be good citizens”, she said.
Dr. Umar commended Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje for supporting the ministry to empower the beggars.
