The College of Agriculture Ganye in Adamawa state established 28 years ago is yet to get its courses accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) due to lack of infrastructure, among others.
Mr. Aminu Kardu Tsigya, Acting Provost of the College who disclosed this to newsmen expressed worry over the non-accreditation of the school courses almost twenty-eight years since its establishment in 1992.
Tsigya disclosed that the college can’t meet the requirement for accreditation by NBTE as a result of the huge challenges confronting the institution.
He appealed to the state government to assist the school so that it can overcome some of the operational challenges hammering the development of the College.
“Some of the challenges affecting the school include dilapidated infrastructures like classrooms, hostels, and lack of perimeter fences in all the three campuses of the college, which expose both staff and students to danger in the wake of this security challenges occasion by insurgency, banditry, and kidnapping”, he said.
Tsigya stated that despite the challenges the college has continued to graduate thousands of students who are contributing to the socio-economic development of the state and the nation.
“Since my assumption, I was able to renovate male hostels, lecture theatres, classrooms and dug a well which is serving the animal section and the surrounding community”, Tsigya added.
While thanking Governor Fintiri for revamping the education sector in the state, the Acting Provost is optimistic that the Governor would rescue the College from its present predicament.
He also thanked Gangwari Ganye Alh Adamu Sanda II and the Ganye community for their hospitality and assistance to the College.
The Acting Provost called on spirited individuals to assist the College which serves as training ground for young agriculturists and research center for the ultimate aim of food sufficiency in the country.
