Many people have lost their lives and several others injured with about 30 houses razed in a communal clash between Ipav and Yandev communities in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State.
It was gathered that the incident, which began on Saturday and lasted till Sunday evening, was due to a land dispute between Mbakpegh of Ipav and Mbatur of Yandev communities at the bank of a stream called Amboor.
An eyewitness, James Aondover, who posted the development on his Facebook account, said worship places and economic tress like oranges, mangoes and cashews were cut down by the warring communities.
Governor Samuel Ortom, who sent the Secretary of State (SSG) Professor Tony Ijohor and Security Advisor Col. Paul Hemba (Rtd) appealed to all parties involved in the dispute to keep off the land until the matter is resolved.
A detachment of a mobile police team had been deployed to the area as at press time.
