YOLA — Chief of Staff, Maiha LGC of Adamawa State, Adamu Abubakar, (My Pakka), while featuring on Adamawa Broadcasting Corporation, (ABC) Yola, programme  “Mugani a kasa” said heavy downpour has cut-off two major international highways linking Nigeria with Cameroon republic via Maiha local government of Adamawa State.

A statement by Abdulganiyu Pakka, a media aide to the chairman of Maiha local government, Idi Amin, quoted the chief of staff as saying that as a result of the collapse of the two roads, business and economic activities have come to a halt with the attendant consequences.

“The two roads include the one from Jabbi Nomba to Belel and the one linking Nguli to Belel.”

“Being agrarian communities, many farmers will be severely affected by the collapse of the two roads as they will find it difficult to transport their farm produce to the markets which will in turn worsen food crisis in the country.”

“The federal and state governments are losing substantial revenues as a result of the incident and appealed on both to quickly come to the rescue of the communities,” he said.

Abubakar called on the federal and state governments to bring relief materials to victims of the flood, noting that although no life was lost, property worth millions were destroyed by the rampaging flood.

In the same vein, torrential rain has washed off several bridges in no fewer than five wards in Maiha Local Government.

Areas affected include; Konkol, Belel, Sarau (A), Sarau (B), and Tambajam, adding that they have been completely cut off from the rest of the world.

The Chief of Staff appealed to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa state to also come to the rescue of Maiha local government by rehabilitating its township roads which are in condition.

He expressed delight with achievements recorded by the Fintiri led administration, noted that the people of Maiha are keenly waiting for the governor’s intervention in rehabilitating the township roads.
