A prominent New Jersey gospel singer and religious leader has been accused of sexually abusing a man in his home after luring him there with the promise of a job.
According to the Essex County Theodore N. Stephens II, the 75-year-old gospel artiste, Albert J. Lewis Jr., invited the alleged victim to his home in Newark in order to get more information from him about the job.
The victim, a 41-year-old Congolese national showed up, and Lewis had him undress so as to perform a physical examination to make sure he was fit for the NJ Transit job.
Stephens alleged that Lewis told the man to strip, then he performed an “act of criminal sexual contact.”
Lewis was arrested on Tuesday, February 8, and charged with criminal sexual contact, unlicensed practice of medicine and luring of an adult. He was set to be released pending trial under the supervision of the Essex County Pretrial Services department.
Lewis is the executive director of the Dr. Albert J. Lewis Gospel Hour, the second-longest nationally syndicated gospel TV show in New Jersey.
