Habeeb Okikiola, the Nigerian singer known as Portable, trended on social media yesterday over his encounter with some police officers who stormed his ‘office’ to arrest him.

The incident, captured live on Portable’s Instagram page, saw him challenging the authority of the policemen as they invaded his bar in Ogun state and attempted to take him away.

The singer rebuffed the efforts of the police to arrest him, claiming that he works for the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, and as such, he is a property of the federal government.

Portable said, “I’m a superstar, I’m a celebrity. You don’t have any right to walk into my office and tell me that I am under arrest.

“I am a federal government property. I work for the government, I work for APC. I work for Tinubu. We’re the ones controlling Nigeria now. I won’t take this.”

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Force, Ogun State command, confirming the incident, said the unsuccessful arrest was because of a petition against the singer.

The spokesperson for the state police, Abimbola Oyeyemi, reportedly explained that the singer has refused to honour the police invitation on five occasions and the command had to get a warrant to arrest him.

“We have also sent an invitation to him through his father twice for questioning after a report was lodged against him,” Oyeyemi said.

“The police approached a court to get an arrest warrant for him following his refusal to honour the invitation. On sighting the police, Portable stripped himself naked to create a scene.”

He added, “Portable is not bigger than the law. We are going to use minimum force to arrest him.”
