Babatunde Fashola, Minister of Works and Housing has dismissed the controversies surrounding the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, noting that “those issues don’t matter”.
Tinubu has been embroiled in a series of scandals lately which borders on his identity, age, academic qualifications, and source of wealth. The latest is the allegation that he holds dual citizenship.
Speaking in an interview on Channels TV on Sunday, Fashola, who was Tinubu’s chief of staff during his tenure as the governor of Lagos State, said that the controversies, rather than jeopardising Tinubu’s success, accelerates it.
“I think those issues have been ventilated sufficiently. You know what the Nigerian people have decided?: those issues don’t matter. That is what they have said by this vote (Tinubu’s victory in the presidential election).
“And in making that choice, the only thing I can say to you is that every time it got more difficult – what I used to tell people is that this was his (Tinubu’s) path to success. There was no easy way. There is no easy day for him. The more difficult it gets, then you can be sure it’s Asiwaju’s.”
Fashola added that “governance is not about sainthood”. According to him, “It is about efficiency, it is about performance, it is about delivery.”
