One hundred and seventy (107) Jigawa State indigenes studying medicine in Sudan have returned to the state following their evacuation from that country by the Federal Government.
Dr. Abubakar Sani Birnin Kudu, the Executive Secretary, of Jigawa Islamic Education Bureau who received the returnees on behalf of the State Commissioner for Education, expressed thanks to Allah for saving their lives.
Also, Alhaji Abdullahi Yunusa, the Director General of the State Education Monitoring Bureau, advised the returnees not to be deterred by the development by returning home without completing of their studies as students in Ukraine and Russia experienced similar problems.
Alhaji Abdullahi said the government would find alternative ways of sending them to Canada, the UK, the USA, and other safe places to continue their studies.
In a remark, Alhaji Sa’idu Magaji, the Executive Secretary of the state Scholarship Board, stated that it was the constitutional responsibility of the state government to ensure their safe return.
Each student was given five thousand naira N5, 000=00 as transport fare to their respective homes.
