NewsNigeriaMore Than 35 Nigerian Journalists Train On Combating Disinformation

No fewer than 35 Nigerian Journalists have been trained on methods and technology to combat disinformation, including advanced fact-checking methods, artificial intelligence utilization tactics, and digital cybersecurity.

Casa Africa, in partnership with the Centre for Journalism Innovation & Development (CJID), organized the training through its verification platform Dubawa and Spanish Embassy in Nigeria.

The training, which is a brainchild of the #PeriodismoÁfrica program of Casa África, seeks to bring Africa and Spain closer together in areas such as education, economic, cultural, and informative activities.

José Segura Clavell, the Director General of Casa Africa, explained that the alliance was to strengthen the capacities of African journalists in fact-checking and digital security.

“We believe that these skills are essential for quality journalism that can inform citizens and combat misinformation that can undermine democracy and human rights,” he said.

In his remark, the Executive Director at the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development, Dr. Tobi Oluwatola urged media professionals to use artificial intelligence (AI) for digital literacy and verification.

In his comments, the Ambassador of Spain to Nigeria, Juan Sell, explained that one of his nation’s goals is to encourage free, independent, reputable, and competent media in Africa and elsewhere.
