Orire Agbaje, a 400-level Economics student of the University of Ibadan, UI, has been appointed as a member of the presidential committee on fiscal policy and tax reforms.
The committee was inaugurated at the State House, Abuja on Tuesday by President Bola Tinubu.
The president had approved the establishment of the committee last month and appointed Taiwo Oyedele, a tax and fiscal policy expert, as its chairman.
The committee is responsible for various aspects of tax law reforms, fiscal policy design and coordination, harmonisation of taxes, and revenue administration.
During Tuesday’s inauguration, Zacchaeus Adedeji, the special adviser to the President on revenue, described the committee members, drawn from the public and private sectors, as experts in their various careers.

“Mr President, these highly accomplished men and women with proven records of performance in their careers which cut across various sectors of our national life have accepted the honour to serve their country because they share in your vision of a better, more inclusive and more prosperous Nigeria,” he said.
In his remarks, President Tinubu charged the committee to improve the country’s revenue profile and business environment.

“Our aim is to transform the tax system to support sustainable development while achieving a minimum of 18 per cent tax-to-GDP ratio within the next three years,” the President said.
“The Committee, in the first instance, is expected to deliver a schedule of quick reforms that can be implemented within thirty days. Critical reform measures should be recommended within six months, and full implementation will take place within one calendar year.”
Agbaje is the President of the Nigerian Universities Tax Club.
