The Adamawa State Jail Delivery Committee has discharged 363 convicted and awaiting trial inmates in nine Custodial Centres in the state.
The inmates regained their freedom after their cases were reviewed by the committee during visitation to the Correctional Centres led by the state Chief Judge, Justice Hapsat Abdulrahman as part of efforts to decongest the Centres.
The Correctional Centres are located in Hong, Dumne, Maiha, Mubi, Jimeta, Yola, Yolde-pate, Numan and Shelleng.
Addressing the released inmates during the visit separately Justice Hapsat Abdulrahman called on them to be of good behavior that would make them better citizens as they reintegrate into the society.
She warned that leniency will not be given to any who commit an offense and sent back to Correctional Centres.
It was observed that some of the Correctional Centres housed twice as inmates of their capacity, and the committee did not entertain cases bordering on criminal gangs (Shilla Boys), rape, kidnapping, murder, and other crimes.
Meanwhile, the committee will continue with its statewide tour of Correctional Centres.
