Five female students of Federal University, Dutsinma in Katsina State were abducted from their off-campus hostels by gunmen on Wednesday morning.
The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in Katsina, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, said the hostel attacked is behind Mariamoh Ajiri Memorial School, Dutsinma.
Aliyu said the attack occurred at 2:00 a.m.
He confirmed the arrest of an alleged informant to the terrorists, and said efforts are ongoing to rescue the victims unhurt.
It is the latest attack on a university by gunmen in Nigeria, 13 days after 24 schoolgirls were whisked away in neighbouring Zamfara State.
