The 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE, for private candidates will be a computer-based test, the West African Examinations Council, WAEC, announced on Monday.
Moyosola Adesina, the acting head of the public affairs department of WAEC national office in Nigeria, said the decision of the examination body is “in line with global best practices.”
“While the objective tests will be fully computer-based, the essay and test of practical papers will be hybrid, in which the examination questions will be delivered on screen and candidates required to write answers on the answer booklets given to them,” she explained.
Ahead of next year’s examination, the Council said a mock examination will be conducted in February for candidates to “familiarise themselves with the new examination platform.”
Adesina said the examination will be conducted in urban centres and cities and that the Council made provisions for candidates with special needs.
“As Africa’s foremost exam body, providing reliable educational assessment and encouraging academic and moral excellence, it is the vision of the council that, in the near future, all its exams will be delivered via the computer,” she added.
Registration for the examination will begin on Monday, December 18, 2023.
