The National Security Adviser, NSA, Nuhu Ribadu, on behalf of the Nigerian government, has urged the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress, TUC, to call off the ongoing strike that has grounded economic activities in the country.
The NSA, in a statement on Wednesday, said he is “worried about the implications of the strike action on the livelihood of ordinary Nigerians and its potential impact on economic security and other strategic national interests.”
Pilot News reports that Nigerian workers in both the public and private sectors have boycotted work to protest the battering of the NLC President Joe Ajaero last week.
In his plea, Ribadu said some persons who brutalised Ajaero have been arrested while further investigation is underway.
“The Federal Government, through the Office of the NSA, therefore, appeals to the labour leadership to call off the current strike action and allow the dialogue process underway to be exhausted,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, the NLC/TUC leadership has commended the doggedness of Nigerian workers and affiliates in ensuring that workplaces were shut down completely.
The unions urged workers to keep up the momentum until “government meets our demands.”
