Police in Anambra State have busted a syndicate that runs arms in the state.
A release by Anambra State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga stated that 23 pump action automatic guns were recovered from the syndicate in Onitsha.
He added that it also arrested the dealer, who he described as a major arms dealer, dealing illegally in prohibited Firearms.
The short press release stated that: “The breakthrough followed weeks of intensive surveillance by operatives of the command.
“A total of 23 automatic pump action guns and 625 live cartridges were recovered.
“So far, three suspects have been arrested in Onitsha while investigation is being expanded.”
Ikenga quoted the Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye as commending the operatives involved in the operation, saying that the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, also provided guidance throughout the duration of the operation.
