Nigerian senators are using their salaries for December to support the survivors of the disastrous accidental military strike in Tudun Biri village, Kaduna State.
The amount totalled N109 million, indicating that the senators polled N1 million each.
Deputy Senate president Barau Jibrin announced the donation on Sunday when he led a Senate delegation to the Kaduna State Government House to commiserate with Governor Uba Sani over the tragedy.
“We are here to show our solidarity and to show the fact that we stand by the Government of Kaduna State and indeed the entire people of this state, particularly, the people of Tudun Biri in this trying period that the state is experiencing,” Jibrin said.
“A total of N109 million will be made available to the governor so that it can be channelled to help the victims.”
Jibrin said the lawmakers were on the “same page” with President Bola Tinubu’s demand for an investigation of the accident, which the President described as “very unfortunate, disturbing, and painful.”
Governor Sani appreciated the Senate for its support, saying: ” I am really happy with the level of support, level of empathy and solidarity by the people of this country, from Mr President and Vice President to the leadership of the Senate and the National Assembly generally, as well as the good people of Nigeria.”
He attributed the bombing incident to a lack of collaboration between the various security agencies.
“What happened last week here in Kaduna could have been averted if the security agencies in Nigeria were working on the same page. They need to share intelligence,” the Governor said.
