In a swift and decisive operation, the Anambra State Police Command has successfully rescued four children of the same family from the clutches of kidnappers.
The daring rescue operation took place in the early hours of Saturday, 16th December, 2023, near Urum, approximately 25 kilometres away from their home in Achalla village, Enugwu Agidi.
According to Information provided by DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command, the incident occurred on the night of 15th December, 2023, when the family was watching television and suddenly experienced a power outage.
It said the father of the house went outside to investigate, followed closely by his wife. “To their horror, they witnessed three gunmen, believed to be herdsmen, and immediately fled for their live”.
Upon their return to the house, the couple discovered that their four children, aged 13, 14, 21, and 21, who were already asleep, had been abducted by the armed kidnappers”.
“The distraught parents wasted no time in reporting the incident to the Abagana Police through the emergency hotline.
Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, swiftly ordered the mobilization of police personnel and vigilantes to track down and rescue the abducted children. Within hours, the authorities were able to locate and liberate the children, reuniting them with their grateful parents.
According to the Commissioner of Police expressed his commitment to combating the menace of kidnapping in the state and issued a stern warning to perpetrators. He declared that those found guilty of engaging in such heinous acts would be treated even worse than armed robbers.
“To prevent any reoccurrence, security has been drastically intensified in the area. The police command, in collaboration with other security agencies, has extended its dragnet to neighboring communities in order to apprehend the armed herdsmen responsible for the kidnapping”.
