Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, Minister of Women Affairs, has disclosed that police have arrested a Uyo-based lawyer identified as Ekere Ebong for assaulting his wife in a viral video.
In a five-minute video seen on WhatsApp, Mr Ebong was seen in the video standing over his bloodied wife, who was in her underwear, while several people intervened by stopping him from beating her.
In the video, one of the neighbors was heard accusing the man of beating his wife for more than four years.
The minister who expressed concern over the incident during a press briefing in Abuja emphasized that legal action would be pursued against him in the coming days.
She reaffirmed that the Ministry remains dedicated to a renewed approach in combating social vices that disproportionately impact women.
The minister warned that the current administration would not tolerate any form of assault on women and girls, stressing that the law would hold any offender accountable.
