…Dep. Gov, Others Embarks On Sanitation
Adamawa State Government has directed the State Urban Planning and Development Authority to remove illegal posters, and billboards, and clear up refuse dumps as a measure to strengthen monthly sanitation exercise.
Deputy Governor, Prof. Kaletapwa George Farauta, gave the directive while inspecting illegal refuse dumps in the state.
Farauta expressed concern over heaps of illegal dumps at Roundabout Maidoki and Lamido Aliyu Mustapha flyover at the Total filling station junction in the state capital, which poses serious threats and environmental hazards to the people.
“Some of the illegal posters and billboards erected on public structures are positioned in ways that obstruct the view of road users, causing accidents, especially at night.
“State Ministry of Environment has been directed to provide alternatives for disposing of refuse places, as the government would no longer tolerate refusing being dumped indiscriminately,” Farauta said.
At the popular Kuwait business area, the Deputy Governor urged the traders to be law-abiding, the government would not take lightly noncompliance with existing rules to ensure a hygienic environment.
“People should key into the government’s quest to keep the state clean. Once the traders did their business legally, the government would protect them at all times. The traders are our children, they are our people, we are one big family in the state,” she added.
Meanwhile, in her effort to ensure Adamawa State maintains its slogan as a Land of Beauty; Deputy Governor of the State Prof. Kaletapwa George Farauta alongside other State Executive Council members has embarked on clearing drainages and refuse dumps sites in the state capital.
Farauta said the cleaning exercise was a directive that SEC members should participate in cleaning the city to secure the environment from filthy.
While reiterating the to ensure government’s resolve to ensure the timely evacuation of refuse, appealed to people to participate in the environmental sanitation exercise to drive support for a cleaner state.
Mr Mohammad Sadiq Mohammad, Commissioner for Environment said all machinery has been put in place to achieve the desired goal, thereby ensuring that the cleanliness has been sustained.
He revealed that the state government is partnering with the state Environmental Protection Agency and Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes to ensure the enforcement of the sanitation exercise.
