The Commissioner of Police Enugu State Command, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu has announced the arrest of seven male suspects in the state for offenses ranging from conspiracy, armed robbery, unlawful possession of firearms, and cultism.
The Commissioner in a press release signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe on Thursday reveals that a 27 years old male suspect named Ndubuisi Ugochukwu Eze Oboro was arrested by police operatives serving in the Abakpa Police Division of the Command working with the Neighborhood Watch Group, on Wednesday 6th of December 2023 at about 9.30 p.m.
Oboro and his cohorts at large had snatched a Toyota Camry car, phones, and valuables of a male victim, names withheld. Still, they were intercepted by the gallant officers who succeeded in arresting Oboro and recovered one locally made double-barreled pistol and the vehicle.
Meanwhile, Mr. Henry Agbo Ogbonna age 42, former Councilor of Ikiriki Ward 6 in Enugu South Local Government Legislative Council, and four other suspects were also arrested for cultism; Ogbonna was arrested for being a member and sponsor of the secret cult group activities.
Other suspects arrested for conspiracy, unlawful possession of firearms, and cultism include Kosisochukwu Ochiora aged 25; Agbo Daniel (a.k.a. Ara) aged 25; Ani Samuel aged 17, and Okolo Ndukanachi aged 24.
Four (4) firearms, comprising two (2) locally made double-barreled and one locally made revolver pistol, one (1) cut-to-size single-barreled gun, and sixteen (16) live cartridges were recovered on the arrest of the male mentioned above suspects arrested by the police operatives of the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad of the Command in November 2023.
The press release states, “Investigations have proved that the suspects confessed to being members of the Vikings Confraternity, while one of them, Henry Agbo Ogbonna, was found to be the former Councillor of Ikiriki Ward 6 in Enugu South Local Government Legislative Council, acclaimed Senior Special Assistance on Works to the Council’s Executive Chairman, and is a member and sponsor of the secret cult group activities.”
“It further revealed that the suspects, in November 2023, perfected plans to avenge the attack on one of their cult group members by a notorious member of a rival cult group, Apache Tiger (also known as Two-two). This is before the Operatives swung into action and arrested them.”
In another development, another Viking confraternity member, Ani Chidera was arrested by operatives of the Squad on Friday 24th of November 2023 at about 8.30 p.m.; Ani Chidera aged 28 was arrested for his involvement in a burglar case.
One (1) locally made pistol was recovered from the suspect; Ani was arraigned in court and remanded in the Correctional Custodial Centre.
