Governor Mohammed Bago of Niger State has distanced his government from the alleged ban on the sale of alcoholic beverages in Suleja and eight other local governments sharing boundaries with the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
Recall that the State Liquor and Licencing Board, through the Secretary, Malam Ibrahim Mohammed, said in a statement issued to newsmen in Minna that the ban on alcohol takes immediate effect on Monday in Suleja and eight other local governments sharing boundaries with suburbs of Abuja.
However, Bago, in a statement he signed, described the story as a figment of the imagination of mischief-makers in the state.
“The state government did not authorize the ban on alcohol. I at this moment urge the citizenry, irrespective of their religious and ethnic leanings, to go about their businesses without delay.”
“The board in question is not in existence as we speak; it was dissolved long ago and we are yet to constitute another board. The so-called official cannot speak on behalf of the state government. He is unknown to the state government,” Bago explained.
