The Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) jihadists blew up three power transmission towers on Thursday morning, the second explosion in a week.
An officer of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, simply identified as Nurudeen was killed in the fatal explosion. Nurudeen reportedly stepped on an explosive at the scene of the vandalised towers.
The destroyed electrical transmission towers are along the Maiduguri–Damaturu road.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, confirmed the development on Friday evening when it conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the area.
“It’s truly another very sad day for us at TCN, with this incident, especially with the loss of life of the NSCDC official,” TCN said in a post on X.
On December 21, the terrorists pulled down a 330kV transmission tower in Katsaita village, Yobe State with explosives, cutting power supply to some parts of Borno and Yobe.
