The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) has announced the company’s plan on the Token Identifier (TID) rollover for all its prepaid meter customers by the end of February 2024.
Hence, customers are to update their information online as a prerequisite for the meter upgrade; The Standard Transfer Specification (STS) is a secure message system for carrying information between a point-of-sale and a meter and is currently finding wide application in electricity metering and payment systems.
Speaking to newsmen on Sunday, the EEDC Head of Communications, Emeka Ezeh advised customers to start the process immediately and buy and load energy in their meter to avoid running out of energy as the vending platform will be unavailable during the transition period.
Customers are also advised to load any unused token into their meter before the commencement of the TID roll-over as unused tokens will no longer be valid and the company will not refund same.
Prepaid meter customers are to access the link for update using their meter number after which they will validate their mobile number and email address; Link: https://validatecustomer.eedc.online
“To forestall any supply disruption during the TID rollover period, customers are encouraged to purchase enough energy units that will sustain them for some days during the period, as the vending platform will be shut down and meter recharge activities will not go through during this time,” Ezeh advised.
Ezeh further explained, “After the rollover, the very first energy purchase by customers will come with three sets of 20-digit tokens (KCT1, KCT2 & the energy token).”
“The first 20 digits (KCT1) is to reset the meter, the second 20 digits (KCT2) is to upgrade the meter while the third 20 digits (energy token) is to recharge the meter and complete the upgrade process.”
Customers are expected to punch and enter the first 20 digits; and repeat the same process for the second and third 20 digits (the energy token) to complete the upgrade process.
Eze further advised customers to not give in to any form of extortion as the prepaid meter upgrade is at no cost to customers.
“EEDC has put in place a Support Team to ensure that customers are guided through this process; call: 084 700 100, SMS/Whatsapp: 0815 082 6060 or 0815 082 6061.”
